Be the change

FOR ALL THE CYNICS WHO DON’T SIGN PETITIONS BECAUSE THEY THINK IT WONT WORK- Heres the proof that it does

Acid attack survivor, Laxmi, won a huge victory 2 days ago – the Government announced that it will regulate the sale of acid in India.

Laxmi started a petition on Change.org to regulate sale of acid in India. She delivered over 27,000 signatures to the Home Minister, Mr. Sushil Kumar Shinde. This public support along with her case in the Supreme Court has put pressure on the Government to act.

According to reports, retailers will now need permission and licenses to sell acid and buyers will need to provide a valid identity card and address proof. This will reduce the availability of acid to those who will use it for violence against women. This would mean lesser acid attacks.

Thank you for being one among the 6,40,000 people on Change.org that took action to bring about this change. While this victory is a huge milestone in our country, there are many more issues that need to be addressed.
