No offense to katrina kaif who is now the new face of Barbie. She’s obviously laughing all the way to the bank as she should. And kudos to  Mattel Inc. for pulling off a coup to save their plumetting brand -that has ruled and ruined the minds of the girl child for the last 50 years.  By roping in a film star in a bollywood crazy nation  they got exactly the media attention they were seeking.

With a marketing gimic that reeks of desperation.  Because girl kids round the world no longer care for Barbie. ‘Barbie is a bimbo’ and ‘Barbie is a slut’ are T shirts that kids and teenagers wear in protest of the stereotypical image of a teenage or twenty something angelic looking girl, innocent eyes, big breasts, small waist and all eager to please and tease.  A man’s fantasy. Like a pretty pink pet poodle whose lifes mission is to change clothes, grow her hair long, never age and look beautiful day after day. Without blemish

But the girls of today have their own fantasy-it has nothing to do with how the boys want them to be.  Its how they want to grow up to be. Their mothers were barbies and look where it got them-nowhere!

So today, kids around the world want to be BRATZ-the dolls with spunk, attitude, chutzpah and loads of talent. The smart doll who is going to grow up to be tough and sassy and look after herself in the big bad world. She dosent care about being pretty. She cares about being smart. She works and plays equally hard and dosent take any shit from no one.

Ask me- I had a bratz party for Kaveri’s last birthday-(she thinks Barbie is so dumb)and all her girl friends came dressed up like rock chicks  with great attitude. No pretty pink ribbons  please

Though the media is going on about Aishwarya Rai not being the face of Barbie because of her age (another reason that no girl should ever aspire to be a barbie that only propogates beauty as teenage or twenty something- decorated  like a cake and no mind of her own-) , I for one am so glad. Aishwarya is way too bright and talented to be a Barbie.

Any Indian girl is way too bright to be a Barbie for that matter.

Jai Ho!
