Barbie is a slut

No offense to katrina kaif who is now the new face of Barbie. She’s obviously laughing all the way to the bank as she should. And kudos to  Mattel Inc. for pulling off a coup to save their plumetting brand -that has ruled and ruined the minds of the girl child for the last 50 years.  By roping in a film star in a bollywood crazy nation  they got exactly the media attention they were seeking.

With a marketing gimic that reeks of desperation.  Because girl kids round the world no longer care for Barbie. ‘Barbie is a bimbo’ and ‘Barbie is a slut’ are T shirts that kids and teenagers wear in protest of the stereotypical image of a teenage or twenty something angelic looking girl, innocent eyes, big breasts, small waist and all eager to please and tease.  A man’s fantasy. Like a pretty pink pet poodle whose lifes mission is to change clothes, grow her hair long, never age and look beautiful day after day. Without blemish

But the girls of today have their own fantasy-it has nothing to do with how the boys want them to be.  Its how they want to grow up to be. Their mothers were barbies and look where it got them-nowhere!

So today, kids around the world want to be BRATZ-the dolls with spunk, attitude, chutzpah and loads of talent. The smart doll who is going to grow up to be tough and sassy and look after herself in the big bad world. She dosent care about being pretty. She cares about being smart. She works and plays equally hard and dosent take any shit from no one.

Ask me- I had a bratz party for Kaveri’s last birthday-(she thinks Barbie is so dumb)and all her girl friends came dressed up like rock chicks  with great attitude. No pretty pink ribbons  please

Though the media is going on about Aishwarya Rai not being the face of Barbie because of her age (another reason that no girl should ever aspire to be a barbie that only propogates beauty as teenage or twenty something- decorated  like a cake and no mind of her own-) , I for one am so glad. Aishwarya is way too bright and talented to be a Barbie.

Any Indian girl is way too bright to be a Barbie for that matter.

Jai Ho!

  1. Barbies are dumb but they’ve sold for decades. There was a time when many kids bought them with different dresses. Personally dolls to me have to be round bodied and cuddly with blue eyes twikling and chubby cheeks. Katrina becoming the new Barbie face is too funny. I think Reese Witherspoon looks like a Barbie. She should be the new face. If they can market a Barbie with Katrina’s face so be it. It might boost the sales. who knows? Today P. Chidambaram was talking about something on CNN IBN, I say something because it was such a short while ago. Yet, I cant really remember what about. So, if I hadnt read your blog would have not even known Kat is the new Barbie. Ultimately all news is news which is read or seen and soon forgotten. Is that an irritating stand?

  2. Kai,

    “HaHaHaaaaaHaaaaHaaaHaaaaaaaaHaaaaaaaaaaa”

I thought of not letting my fingers romance the keys again kissing suchitra.com, but some how my instinct propelled me to answer your post. The following are the lines from your post if you could refer:
    2. From your post it seems (it seems and I MIGHT BE WRONG!) that you are stubborn, rude, impolite and have no respect for celebrities and in this case Suchitra.

Here is my answer : Yes, you are right! “YOU ARE WRONG”… and your entire comments.

  6. I agree with you 99% but wonder if you have really looked at the whole picture. DOn’t mean to be critical just food for thought.

  7. So my husband has found a new hobby. I think its pretty cute, hes now into rock tumbling. He bought all these ugly rocks, and turned them into something fabulous. Well my question is, when is someone too old to be playing with these things? I mean wouldn’t you think it sounds kinda wierd that my husband plays with rock tumblers? Anywho, he got the idea from one of his buddies at work. I get a chance to do girls not out with my girlfriends now more often so I guess im not really complaining cause I missed hanging with my friends ever since we had the baby in all.

  8. Barbie is only a fantasy. It doesn’t and can never exist in the real world. The real world needs women to be tough n brave enough and I think Kaveri is right in the way she feels about Barbie. Its a playdoll for kids and has to be limited to that but none should ever take it as an inspiration, for God’s sake that’ll be a disaster.

  9. Indian girls are bright.. Jai ho

Barbie’s popularity ensures that her effect on the play of children attracts a high degree of scrutiny. The criticisms leveled at her are often based on the assumption that children consider Barbie a role model and will attempt to emulate her.

Nothing more is more controversial above.. it is enjoyed. Discussions should be critical or even sexy, or anything.. and should anyone agree? Discussions should not be angry.. may be!

  10. Nice post. There’s a similar topic thats related to this in Yahoo answers or Google groups, I think. I’ll find the link and post it back here.

  11. why blame barbie?
she’s just a doll… girls who dont identify bravo! girls who do bravo! men who created their fantasies bravo! men who hated the doll bravo! men who drool and girls who protest bravo! Whats in a doll?

  13. Ha!

You would think that they world have OK’d it at the beginning instead of allowing it to go so long without saying a thing and then bringing it back up when it was too late. I don’t understand it at all.
