This painting is very disturbing Suchitra.
    Especially the child within
Can you explain a bit about it

  2. Wow…
    That is amazing and thoughful.
    Claps ! Claps ! Claps !

  3. stupid says:

The combination and blending of colours of the painting is absolutely wonderful. But I am not able to interpret it and explain the significance of the same.Unless I am able to decipher and understand, I am not qualified to say’it is amazing and thoughtful’. Some explanation would be appreciated. All the Best

  4. stupid says:

Probably, it is the mother’s prayer to the Almighty to protect her child from external danger and evils. A mother is created by Him only to pray and take care of her children.

  5. Suresh says:

    Powerful

can you explain your state of mind during making this

  6. Ghost Rider says:

That sounds like a mental collapse to me! Too many trains of thoughts to handle?! Somehow the hands in a prayer-mode does not seem to fit in.

  7. Scout! says:

Please please I beg of you…tell me this was co-incidental! you’ve posted this on Mahashivratri- The day of Lord Shiva and his snakes!

  8. Kiku says:

I think its a sign for all of us.. that Deity Shiva- the God of masculine energy should find his way here! I am looking at it as a BIG GLOWING SIGN that soon I shall find some form of that energy from somewhere ;-) )))

  9. Scout! says:

Right! Its a coincidence! Me will look at teh coincidence in a positive way too…

  10. Kiku says:

I would like to tell you one of the most popular “old wives Tale” / Myth/ Truth whatever we want to call it…

If one sees snakes in their sleep or randomly just creatively draws a snake or writes about snakes on an impulse or sings snakes songs its a sign that Unprecedented Good Luck and money is going to be coming very soon…

Its happened a few times with me now that I see snakes and actually they signify in my case a few others I know to bring a lot of good luck!

Maybe your creative expression is a harbinger of good times! ;-) )

  11. simplysid says:

I agree with ghost rider. It definitely seems like a mental collapse-but then suchitra has been very upfront about it. I think it happened during the break up of her marraige.
Atleast she used a creative outlet and did something creative rather than destructive…

  12. simplysid says:

Though i saw this painting yesterday it disturbed me immensely. I could not get myself to comment on it. Now that i have got over the shock i think its stunning, and very brave of you to let people see it. Maybe all of us can learn to vent our feelings in a useful way when undergoing trauma

  13. suresh says:

i was so affected by this painting that i decided to do some r& d-i found this on the net

Snakes speak to transformation, death and rebirth, the taking on of a new skin, new roles, responsibilities and even attitudes… and the cobra would speak to the fact that you may be afraid of the changes you feel coming.
Very often the snake can be symbolic of a message coming to you from a higher plane. As this is a cobra my sense is that you are being “challenged” in your life by the circumstances of your birth and family. I have this further sense that you are getting ready to “break free” in some way. Listen to your inner self for the Wisdom messages that the snake may have.
Usually when you dream of Snakes, it has to do with some form of the Kundalini (sexual grounding power) You need to look at what the snake was doing and if you were frightened of it, than likely you would be subconsciously dealing with something of the sexual nature that makes you uncomfortable. Or if you were not afraid of it, maybe a part of you is breaking free and developing new strength.

Another meaning of snake is letting the old go and accepting the new. Because snakes shed their skin. You could be afraid of something new coming to be or you may be stepping into something new with ease. It does feel however that with the Cobra and it being so big to protect itself with the way it is built that you are trying to protect yourself from things that are happening around you. It feels like you want to accept some new things but are afraid of being hurt, and thus you can sometimes attack and get your back up instead of just accepting.

  14. suresh says:

I read somewhere that snake dreams occur when the dreamer is attempting to come to terms with his or her more instinctive self. In a way, it is also about trying to gather energies from the suppressed self for personal integration.

  15. suresh says:

The snakes in your dream symbolize primal energy, temptation. These are the thoughts and feelings you may be trying to suppress. In constantly suppressing your feelings, over time it will overflow to the point where you are forced to confront them. The snakes puts you face to face against your unconscious. Your dream may be an invitation for you to explore your unconscious and not to be afraid of what there is to learn about yourself.

  16. suresh says:

Snakes are also well known as symbols of the male sexual organ. They usually appear as a symbol of fear or opression. But the fact that the dream occurs indicates that this fear is being brought into your conscious from the unconscious and so the process of healing has already started

  17. Seesaw says:

    mindblowing.
Its amazing that someon who looks as sweet and gentle as you has such a deep well of emotion and intelligence within.
    Good luck. Suchitra. God Bless

  18. Sabita Mishra says:

Brahma the creator is reborn and is going on to the fourth dimension, his birth is not fully complete therefore he resides in the head and is protected by the snakes. What is the new world going to be is the wonderful question? Just like how the snake sheds its skin the new bramha is symbolized by the foetus. Ultimately the painting is just an expression of birth and in the wider sense can also mean change.

  26. RAY'S says:

    Hi Suresh,

Your interpretations are very interesting and thoughtful. Very Good!

“Another meaning of snake is letting the old go and accepting the new. Because snakes shed their skin”- I found these lines in one of your posts which made me respond. Also, my response has got nothing to do with the interpretation of the painting.

I’ll give you a very practical example and this is in no way to offend you. This is one of my observations I thought of sharing with you. There’s no such thing as shedding the skin. It is just a layer of dead cells that hampers the movement as well as the perspiration capacity of the snake. If you could afford, observe a human being who has not taken bath for two weeks or more and you’ll find a very similar layer of dead skin cells clinging to the epidermis. Just because we take bath every day, we never notice such a similar process in us.

    See U.

  27. Asray Acharya says:

THIS SHOULD BE NONE OTHER THAN SUCHITRA HERSELF PRAYING FOR HER CHILD.

A painting is all about the condensation of an ‘Event in space and time’ associated with the individual’s ‘Gaze’ or ‘Cognitive Perceptions’ – the complete act or the process of seeing. Lets forget about the eyes and their property of vision and decipher ‘Seeing’ from a different context and a different angle. Here, seeing is about experiencing the cluster of thoughts as they bombard the mind with random continuity. In the process they form newer and perplexing hybrid clusters leading to fear and chaos.

As I interpret the various elements, colors and dynamics in the painting…this is evidently a female,(smooth, slender shoulders-round,large breasts-thin,curvy waist) got to be Suchitra herself and its all about the conflict between contrasts. In reality, contrasts compliment each other, but here the existing relationship is that of a conflict…perhaps a battle and an a call for intervention, the Divine intervention.

It signifies the predominant male ideology and the general helplessness and submissive female disposition. In this case, it speaks about the natural tendency of a mother seeking refuge in ‘The Holy Lord’ when she has got no ‘trustable’ support to lean on to…

Let me elucidate on the most striking features of this painting :

#1. The title ‘IMPLOSION’ :- It means ‘ a sudden inward collapse; a gravitational collapse’. It is a very natural tendency of human beings to search for happiness and pleasure from some external sources, literally any source. And to an extent, its the kind of blind trust that propels to seek pleasure from an unknown and unwarranted source (pleasure seeking is the ultimate reason behind all human endeavour)…When this trust gets broke or goes haywire then there is this sudden blast of incongruent thoughts which gain enormous strength trying to decipher that one particular decision – “Why did I Trust?”…and many a times its not the individual mind that questions, has got the answers…but the Supreme Will…the One Source For All The Answers…only to be contacted through the prayer, not from the Mind, but from the Soul.

#2. The Naked Female Body :- A. This, for me is Suchitra herself from the context of the ‘Male Gaze’ and her resultant experiences. The male gaze is all about the predominant idea of a man about a woman. It signifies about man’s interest in the female flesh rather than her soul. The male gaze travels and tries to ‘exploit’ the curves and bends of the female anatomy rather than trying to ‘explore’ the depth and vastness of her soul(heart) and bond with it.(In pure sense, gaze is about a soul bonding with the other soul with out the parameters of external, measurable, physical beauty. Its about the bonding, the penetration and the interwining where thought is not a catalyst).
    B. The other interpretation of nakedness here, is ‘Purity’. Clothes signify status, ego and taste which are both superficial and artificial. They hide the real person and plays a gamble with people’s perceptions. However clever and manipulative human beings may be, they appear naked for God as He is the one to know the in and out of them( all the thoughts and actions). Here, Suchitra is trying to connect with the Divine with pure and unalloyed devotion with folded hands.

#3. The Multiple Snakes in the Head Region :- The head signifies memories and experiences (both positive and negative ofcourse) as it is the region where the brain is located.
    A. Here, in this case, all the snakes are invariably looking in one direction and that is towards the child with open mouths to consume her. The snakes signify Suchitra’s idea about men and their manipulations and the other characteristic trait of dropping the old skin and getting fresh again. Lets fathom this point… The snake may drop its old skin, neverthless its the ’same old snake’ in a new skin. The venom has not gone…the striking power has not gone…the lethal qualities have not gone…just a disguise…infact, more agile than before…and so are men…always on the prowl…looking for the next prey…in a new avatar…and at a new place…
    B. For me, they also represent her own fears about her child and their impact on her growth as the future is uncertain. The snakes also represent the wavering thoughts in the mind which lack direction and co-ordination hampering the right decisions or judgements to be made regarding the future.

#4. The Child :- A. It should be her daughter as I see her chest and pubic regions being covered by the snakes as these two regions signifies ’shyness’- the predominant quality to be identified with females.
    B. My other interpretation is… the kid is none other than Suchitra…I mean the lost Suchitra…the innocent Suchitra…the unalloyed suchitra…the untouched Suchitra…the unmanipulated Suchitra…Suchitra, when she was all by herself just the way her child is…right now…

#5. The Colors :- A. The Upper Half : The color ‘Reddish-Orange’ in the background and the snakes in the foreground amounts to feelings like passion, rage, desire and violence signifying distruction. It also signifies the all encompassing element -’Fire’ which can burn any thing and leave the ashes.
    B. The Lower Half : This is the ‘Heart & Soul’ of this painting as I observe and analyze it. It is the ‘Summum Bonum’, the ‘Crux’, the ‘Essence’, the’Spirit’, the ‘Destiny’ and the ‘Reason for all the Reasons’ and the ‘Reason behind all the Reasons’.

………….its Blue (Water), the color signifying peace, tranquility, purity, depth, strength, vastness and spirituality(water’s characteristics; need not be that of the color blue). Here, the water…infact, the rising water is trying to rise over and over so as to extinguish the fire at the top. As I said, this is the CRUX…normally water flow from top to bottom or from an elevation to a depression. It is impossible to flow up. But, here its the reverse. And how’s that possible? By virtue of ‘THE PRAYER…THE CRY OF THE SOUL’ for ‘THE SHOWERS OF DIVINE GRACE & MERCY’ where there are no such replies as “NO, SORRY, NOT NOW, IMPOSSIBLE…..” Its about the triumph of the soul over the mind…the prayer over the thought…the absolute over the relative…

Suchitra, you titled it ‘Implosion’. Good!
Permit me to take the freedom to title it atleast here as I see it as’Fear-Extinguished;Freedom-Forever’

Looking forward for your valuable comments….

  28. Asray Acharya says:

    Suchitra,

Here are the proofs of the current status of your mind(thoughts) and its relationship with your painting.

Barbie is a slut – The stereotypical image of a teenage or twenty something angelic looking girl, innocent eyes, big breasts, small waist and all eager to please and tease. A man’s fantasy. Like a pretty pink pet poodle whose lifes mission is to change clothes, grow her hair long, never age and look beautiful day after day. Without blemish.

I say a prayer :- As an ordinary citizen, as a woman and as a mother I don’t even want to understand the vile machinations of it. I just want to feel safe, my children to roam free and the world to be a happy place.
And in my honest moments I admit that I want somebody else to do the dirty job of cleaning my neighbourhood and country up. I’m still some what conditioned to believe that it’s a mans job. If there was any problem my daddy always looked after it. I stayed indoors and fed the dog or wrote a poem while my mother cooked us a warm meal. Its how most of us girls have been raised.
The evil that has driven man to the dregs through the centuries.
It’s the games men play very often out of each others drawing rooms. For and against each other. Terrorism is not about religion. Religion is just an excuse. It’s merely the politics of hatred and acquisition of a perverse convoluted notion of power.

Amazing work! I just love it. I do not know what was your state of mind the time you painted this one. But what I see is, ‘a mother turn into multi headed snake to protect the child ! !’ That’s what I understand and love it!
