I think I finally understand men…
thanx to my male dog muffin.
No no, this is not some kind of feministic rant. It is a true story of love compassion and forgiveness
)))))))))
So hear me out men and women alike, for this simple revelation will open your eyes
See I’ve always had dogs for pets. Female dogs-(I dont like to call them bitches because i dislike that word) Since i was a kid. But never a male dog.
Muffin-the male cocker spaniel came into my house quite by accident. I already had a female cocker, Cupcake, & had no intentions of getting another pet. Anybody who has had a pet knows how much work goes into looking after one-my hands were already full.
Exactly a year ago Muffin was purchased from a friends litter, intended to be gifted to a relative. He was a few weeks old, tiny and adorable.I got him on a friday. Before leaving for his new home on the following monday, he spent a weekend at my place.
Over the weekend, my daughter Kaveri fell in love with him. Clung on to him and balwed when it was time for him to say goodbye. He whimpered too. I gave in. He was all white and furry and cute and cuddly and my heart melted.
Then for a while i was a bit worried. Muffin the male dog, did sussu like a girldog, (like not lifting his leg but squatting on the floor) never sniffed around Cupcake-the female dog, when she got her first period, and did nothing naughty except chew up a few of my most special pair of shoes and precious items of furniture.
My friends called Muffin a pansy and Kaveri’s older friends teased her that there may be something wrong with him…wondering if he was a proper boy at all. I called up my vet a few times to ask if everything was allright. Were there some development issues? The vet assured me everything was perfect-as God made it.He squatted for sussu because he was too young. He would lift his leg in no time at all. So far so good.
Then earlier this month on the 7th of december, Muffin-(the male dog) turned one. Kaveri had a small party for him. It was also the day Cupcake-(the female dog) got her 2nd period.
For a few days everything was smooth sailing. My pets were well behaved and we were one happy family.
One week later all hell broke lose. Muffin suddenly started to go insane. Running aggressively behind Cupcake all the time. She sometimes snapped to push him away or hid herself in corners where she knew he could not get to her.
Kaveri was frantic with worry-she wanted to know if muffin had got rabies and gone mental.
Understanding what was happening I decided to keep them in seprate rooms till Cupcake’s period was over. Even walked and fed them separately
But Muffin jumped and yelped and scratched and banged at the door non stop. He screamed and barked and whined all night long. Stopped eating. Lost weight. Eyes glazed. All his attention was manically focussed on getting to Cupcake, who now very elegantly ignored him the few times they accidetally came in contact. The mating game was on full throttle.
My sweet little Muffin the male dog had turned into a psycho. The yelping and barking continued. It was becoming an effort to keep him confined and the sudden strenght in my cutie that everyone had so far called a pansy astounded me.
Still I was determined to keep them apart-i couldnt cope with the responsibilty of caring for a litter, finding new homes for the pups blah blah. Maybe when cupcake my female dog came in heat the next time around but certainly not yet
Then one day i went out for a couple of hours.
Kaveri called me up crying loudly. Terrified
“mamma, come home soon. Cupcakes and Muffins bums are stuck together and i cant pull them apart. I’m very scared.”
I yelled at the maid. Hadnt i left strict instructions to keep them apart? How on earth did they let it happen? Dang! And how on earth were they letting Kaveri see all that?
I sighed. I gave up. In spite of my herculean effort at keeping them apart Nature had won. I was powerless to stop it.
I told kaveri to go and play in her friends house and went back to complete the chore i had left the house for. The next few days i let Muffin and Cupcake do their thing -once or a hundred times-what did it matter?
This little incident changed my head forever.
I think i now understand human behaviour totally. Have become sympathetic even.
Surely we humans are not that different from our animal friends?
I finally understood the complexities of moralty and custom and social conduct that have bound us for centuries. Understand their origins in the simple laws of nature.
I now understood that what i called double standards in the male so far, was merely a way for them to try and protect the women in their care. Because they understand exactly how other men feel and think
I understood that women allowing for that to be imposed on them was merely because …because…whatever. It took 5 adults to try and keep Muffin away from Cupcake but yet we failed. His urge to mate was just too strong. The behaviour that i condemned and raved and ranted and broke my heart for, was simply something that could not be helped.
Thank you Muffin – my male dog for opening my eyes. And clearing the cobwebs in my brain.
Der aaye par durust aaye. Now i know you came into my life for a reason. So that i can finally understand …
Good doggie!
What a great story of love compassion and forgiveness…
why dont you post a picture of muffin your male dog and cupcake your female dog so we have a face for them. and understand them better.
Bitch is a bad word. I hate it too.
But dont you know bitches have all the fun and make all the money?
if only your mamma had told you so.
Just kidding. Your post made me smile. Glad you have resolved this confusion and can move into the new year with a new level of elightenment
))))))))))))
Havent you heard the expression “he ran after her like a dog?” where do you think it came from?
“Der aaye par durust aaye”
aaya tho sahi.
good fun
Though you make excuses the tone of your artcle definitely comess across as feminist. it seems that you are calling the man a dog but refuse to call the woman a bitch.
Human beings are evolved species higher form than animals.while baser instincts do exist we use our intelligence to make choices and different people do it differently
For every horny bastard there is a bitch/slut equally. it takes two hands to clap
“I now understood that what i called double standards in the male so far, was merely a way for them to try and protect the women in their care”
nobody likes to be compared-
men Vs men
women Vs women
Men Vs women
men Vs dog
women Vs bitch.
so its better cover everything up with falsehoods and drama and morality. because what one deont know cannot hurt anybody and so everybody can remain happy and ignorant and face terrorist attack as mute spectators not knowing what to do. because their brains are full of cobwebs and they have become blind
hey ss
calm down. i will go have some coffee and think about this and the connection with terrorist attack..
i think you may have a point though
LOL … man learning from dogs.. Good one!
Good boy Muffin!!
Little mercies that:
1. I don’t chew on sundry slippers just cos I am teething.
2. I don’t have to smell a crotch to know if it belongs to a ‘friendly’ or a ‘hostile’.
3. I don’t roll on my back just cos someone scratched me behind me ears.
4. I don’t shed.
5. Its been years since saggy b**bed ‘aunties’ have gone “So sweeeeeet….’ Over me ( Down boy!! I
know the feeling…..).
6. Ah yes….I can write my own blog.
Dear Suchitra,
Little mercies that:
1. You didn’t get the poor guy neutered….its an effective way of getting rid of all things amorous in
dogs (including humping a friendly, neighborhood leg).
2. You didn’t try and put a chastity belt on Lady Cupcake.
3. You didn’t take Muffin out to mate. Actually, not a bad idea- he might just have had a pick from a
wider field.
4. You have tried to equate our society with that of the pooches ( I think they have it better- no lady
ever made me sit on her lap, or let me lick her face, or let me walk naked thru her drawing
room!!!!!!)
5. We don’t have to be locked up in separate rooms – although god knows, we have enough stuff that
makes us act “propah” and miss the woods while we look at the trees.
6. Ah yes….we can write our own blog.
Here is to looking and learning a lot more from our friends from the animal kingdom in the year 2009!!
Love and cheers…

Sumit-thats hilarious
Awakenings occur at different times and to different things to different people.
Some learn, some unlearn and others remain the same. Whatever happens to one is
self invited. The more intelligent species suspect and suffer, the less accept and survive. Two sides of the same coin! compassion and understanding generate each other. Pompous nonsense this may appear.
Carry on Suchitra. Only through infinite suffering greatness results!
vasishta.
Well done Suchitra, Better late than never. There are many who give little importance to such topics in life.I have always believed in” the weaker sex is stronger because of the weakness of the stronger sex for the weaker sex.”.
My suggestion, as an educationist, is to make a short film on this topic and use it for the children [age group 8-10] in schools when “Sex Education”is being introduced in our country and let us pray to God that the day is not far off.We can’t change the society overnight. Mr. Is a respectable term, where as the feminine gender of the same,’ mistress’ is derogatory.Maitaining your dignity is in your own hands. Alli Rani. 02-01-2009
I agree with alli rani. these are things that are never spoken about in our society and its high time that it started happening. If we educate the young ones they will grow up to understand and a collective healing will occur.
there is a section of society that is still fighting against sex education in schools and other educational instititions . A law should be passed at the centre to make it compulsory. then checks can be imposed to see that it is applied
but that in a country like india is difficult to implement- has anybody stopped spitting inspite of a ban on it? infact the policemen are those that spit the most
Interesting, dont understand the bit about protecting the female in their care, methinks its just a complete physical need and fulfilment of a sexual need. Maybe next year Muffin would want to mate again. Now being an animal surely if he’s exposed to another female dog wont Muffin go for her, rather than Cupcake. Dont know what the answer is? Hypothetically ur friend who has a female cocker spaniel comes to stay with you for a while, unfortunately its her period and your friend whose very busy has been planning this holiday for months. Well…..
sterilising the female canine is a frequently-resorted-to-safety practice dog lovers employ in situations of the kind u refer to in ur blog.for the urban elite the mating scene could be disturbing but elsewhere these are common sights even for kids.no reason to get alarmed.the child gets to know that it is something normal.perhaps the adults go ga ga over such scenes
haven,t u seen such mating scenes when you were a child? y get paranoid.obscenity is in the eye of the beholder!
Hi vasishta
what a lovely name. Wasnt he a wise old sage?
Hi suraiya
thanx for writing in. I dont think muffin would bother if its a cocker spaniel or my friends dog or whatever. Any female dog will do… will keep you posted on how it goes
Hey Sumit
thats very funny and very well written. Keep blogging
we human beings r different from animals.there is no rape in animal
kingdom.the unwilling canine squats in one place,no matter how many surround
her or however long another canine hovers over.the more interesting thing
is the animals do not charge, monetarily speaking!
koundinya
aawwww
all men are not dogs
there is a beautiful photograph of your happy family you your daughter and your two dogs in todays DNA newspaper. WHich one is Cupcake and which is is Muffin? so i can get a better idea of this true story
can we say this photograph?
Surely we humans are not that different from our animal friends?
the only difference between our animal kingdom friends… which came after the plant kingdom…was power and differentiation (us versus them theory) mobility, territorialship…..
84 lakh cycles before a soul finishes the crystal, plant and and animal soul
group experiences.
and us… in the human form… we added emotions….lol!
hehe! This was a rather interesting lesson in understanding the male species! By the way, I remember Bosky!
Hi Suchitra,
I had a male daschund and never a female dog at my house. But I have seen these days when he was at his peak, he used to try do this with my leg. I am sure this is just the way nature is.
To site an example as what you have sited and to write about in a very simple ways, itself tells that there is some thing missing in your life too. I have been separated for an year or more, but I have suppressed my feelings and try to devote my emotions into spiritual thoughts, especially Ganeshji and Sai Baba.
But let go of your feelings which is rooted deep within. You are young, beautiful and yet to see an major part of your life. And with an angel such as Kaveri (The river which flows with the warmth and love to almost all the Tamil Nadu People as of today and used to at one point to all where all she used to flow through) I guess it should be easy for you to move on.
I am not sure if the example that you sited was a vent of the deep rooted anguish of how life has treated you or that it is an acceptance of nature and men or reality. But what I could understand from it was that there was more that you wanted to vent rather than just a hatred for men, which I am sure is a passing phase and I know you would come out of it well. All we tamilians do.
Take care . nice on .. but breathe it out
Money is the root cause of all evil.
Its possession dazzles.
its lack agonises.
it covers a multitude of sins.
if wisely handled it can give happiness to multitudes.
Well, in light of the humorous story you wrote about nature and animals, and in light to the offense some men took here, let me declare.
I am a healthy red-blooded woman.
I love men.
I love sex.
I love the men I have sex with.
Yes, we women also have healthy sex drives.
OK?
Now get over it and live with it.
Hi Suchitra,
I could also feel sometimes that people behave like Animals when compete for a beautiful/attractive girl within our premise.(College, Office etc). You can get much more clear picture when you watch the tough fights among the males(Animal) to attain the female(Animal) in some Wild discovery programs in TV. Unfortunately the animals will able to show only their physical strength during the fights, but we humans use our other powers including wealth, mesmerism, magic etc to attain the goal(girl). We have to use extra ordinary talents to win the competition.
And a lot more things we can know/learn from the animal kingdom and from their family matters. Each Animal species has their own lifestyle or culture in maintaining their relationship.
Any way I Thank Suchitra for making a chance to drain out my views regarding this topic.
You still “think”? Think again!!!
What a facinating article. I’m looking for expert advice, could you help?
The mind sees what it chooses to see..
Look at “what i called double standards in the male so far, was merely a way for them to try and protect the women in their care. Because they understand exactly how other men feel and think
I understood that women allowing for that to be imposed on them was merely because …because…whatever.”
Have any more dog episodes to support the hypothesis? Any more updates about your muffin and cup-cake but involving other men too (or else they sound like another happy couple to me and people above are detracters)? This blog should not just die away..
Interesting article. Were did you got all the information from…
Great articles & Nice a site?.
As a Newbie, I am always searching online for articles that can help me. Thank you
Good! your eyes are finally opened!!
